Supporting the microdonation movement with Pennies
When you look after the pennies, the pounds look after themselves. And that’s why we are so honoured to be supporting the microdonation movement with Pennies, our long-standing client, who processed 38 million microdonations last year . That’s nearly 50% more than in 2022 and particularly impressive considering the challenging economic climate we’re living in at the moment.
We’ve been working with Pennies for several years. They are the digital upgrade of the traditional charity box that enables small pence donations at the till on credit and debit cards or online. We helped them upgrade their API to handle up to 1,200 donations a second which would allow for approximately 10 million donations a day! This was a critical development as previously they were not able to manage the volumes that integration with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 merchant would bring. So, this boost in capacity was instrumental to the growth in donations they’ve charted recently through new partnership arrangements with headline merchants.
In addition to enhancing API functionality and updating their API frameworks, we’re currently working with Pennies to:
- Provide ongoing support for their API so it continues to work perfectly
- Enhance their Salesforce and Magento plugins for a more seamless experience
- Support the Android application we built for them which enables Verifone’s next generation of PED devices to work with Pennies infrastructure, ensuring they are future-proof for years to come
In 2023, they launched more than 30 implementations including in-store partnerships with major high-street names and even more channel partnerships for eCommerce microdonations. With 1 in 4 people giving less due to financial uncertainty (preferring tiny, frequent gifts), we know how supporting the microdonation movement with Pennies is making a real impact and we are confident they will reach their goal of 250 million micro-donations by the end of 2024.
